Are there any plans in place in case you will stop supporting Drafft in the future?

Hey!
I been playing around with draft a bit and deciding whether or not I want to get a lifetime license, but I couldn't find answers to some of my questions.

In case of a lifetime license, what happens if, for some reason, your servers become unreachable? Will the software stay activated forever, or will I be locked out of my data?

The reason I'm asking is purely because with lifetime licenses, and especially for note taking/planning/knowledge base style software - it is possible to use the same software for a decade or more.

E.g., something like eagle.cool is committing to open source the project if they ever cease development (link).

Is this something drafft has any plans for? E.g. disabling activation requirement if the software becomes unsupported, open sourcing it, etc?

Hello!, thanks for checking out Drafft and for the thoughtful questions!

We don’t rely on any servers for the actual work, all data stays local on your device and never leaves it (unless you choose to sync or back it up somewhere yourself). You’re always in full control of that.

There is a one-time activation step that goes through Lemon Squeezy to validate the license at start. If Lemon Squeezy ever went offline, I would migrate the activation to another system so your license would still work.

And if at some point I decide to stop maintaining Drafft, the latest version would be made available without any activation requirement so you could keep using it without worries. (Probably free on itch like v1)

This is a super valid point and something I really care about, relying on an external server is not my ideal scenario. The only reason activation exists is so I can offer subscription plans for people who don’t need the lifetime license, or just want to use Drafft for a few months.

TLDR: If I ever stop supporting Drafft, removing activation would be the first thing I do.

Tha eagle.cool approach is also a good idea (and project looks quite cool, their gallery layout looks super nice to use as inspiration on Drafft gallery)

Thanks for such a detailed response!
I appreciate the approach, and just hearing that from the developer directly makes me feel much more confident in migrating my workflow to drafft
